Sloane Marie | Seven Months

Just a quick update that sets the scene for this month. When we went in for our six month pediatrician appointment, our pediatrician was concerned about her size. She is on the low end for her weight and really low end for height. So we decided that I would try to feed her an additional 1-2 ounces of pumped milk right before bed to see if that will help her gain more weight. I actually decided to take it a step further and met with a lactation consultant to see if there was more going on than I realized. We came to the conclusion that my supply is on the low end and I had no idea. So I have been working hard this month to try and increase my supply. I have been taking supplements and pumping regularly and I can definitely tell the difference. I also feel like Sloane has been getting more milk at each feeding and has been less hungry because of that. At the begining of the month I was having issues with her waking up far more often and I came to the conclusion that it is because she was hungry. So we have slowly been getting better and she is much more happy these days. We went to the pediatrician at the end of the month and she gained almost a pound this month which is great! She should be gaining a pound a month, so we are close to that goal, but in comparison between 4 months and 6 months so only gained one pound 4 ounces. So it is definitely an improvement. Now onto the rest of the monthly update.

What's new?
She went from hardly moving to crawling in less than a month. Her crawl is unique, but efficient. She looks like she is doing the worm to get across the floor.
She has tried avocado, carrots, sweet potatoes, peas with zucchini and mint, applesauce, pears, blueberries, and bananas. She has eaten all of it happily but loves applesauce and carrots the most.
She sits in her highchair easily now and enjoys sitting in it out in public too.
We also started putting her in the cart when we go grocery shopping and she does well most of the time, until she gets tired.
She is so busy and we can't trust her in our lap when we have food or dishes in front of us. She loves to grab anything within reach.
Loves to play all by herself on the floor. Those toys are so entertaining.
She loved her sleep suit for a few weeks, but quickly grew out of it. She started rolling onto her tummy in it which isn't recommended so we transitioned her into a sleep sack so she has more freedom.
She had her first cold that was paired with an ear infection.

I don't want to forget the way she scrunches up her shoulders when she gets mad, especially when getting buckled into the car seat. Her determined face when she is crawling to get something she wants. How much she loves her Paisley dog, which is not reciprocated. Her little arm pounding up and down all the time. The way she crawls by pushing up on her toes and lunging forward. The way she eyes everything that we eat and wants to have some too. How much she loves to look at screens and I have to shut everything off to get her attention.

Weight: 14 pounds 7 ounces (14th percentile) At Birth: 5 pounds 6 ounces.

Height: 24.25 inches (2nd percentile)  At Birth: 18.5 inches

Hair: Light Brown

Eyes: Still holding blue!

Clothes: She is wearing mostly 3-6 month clothes. Some of the onesies are starting to get small, but that is mostly because of her giant diaper.

Diapers: Still loving cloth. She is wearing the smallest setting in her Grovia one size diaper.

Nicknames: Homegirl, Princess, Beautiful, Sloane Baby

-Petting Paisley dog. Everytime she gets close Paisley runs away like she has been injured
-Touching faces. She especially loves to grab mommy's face and try to suck on her chin
-Her Piano toys
-Food. She get impatient in her high chair waiting for the food in the microwave.

-The nosefrida or having her nose touched at all
-Getting buckled in her car seat
-Being cold

Eat: Solids have been going great! She has not really disliked anything we have given her. She has a few that she will eat more of than others, but overall she is loving all food. Nursing has been going better. I have been trying to feed her as much as she will eat which still does not always feel like a lot. We have been giving her a bottle after nursing at night and she always sucks it down and acts like she wants more.

Sleep: The begining of this month was really rough. She was hungry all the time and would wake up often to eat. She has always been a two hour napper, and she was waking up after barely an hour just so crabby and I think it was because she was hungry. I started feeding her a little right before she would go down for a nap and that helped her stay asleep for longer. Overnight was also rough and she was waking up every two hours to eat and this mama was tired. She would also fight going back to sleep after eating which she has never done before. Slowly as I worked to build my milk supply up again, she started sleeping longer. Now, she still wakes at about 4 in the morning to eat a full meal and sometime she will wake up an additional time overnight wanting more food. For the most part though, sh has been going back to sleep immediately so I have been feeling more rested.

Schedule (She has recently fallen into this schedule so we will see if it sticks)
8:30 am Awake for the day. She used to always be awake at 7, but lately it has been later and I am grateful for the extra few hours of sleep.
9:00 am We are done eating and I usually change her into her clothes for the day and we play in her room for a while before heading downstairs.
10:00 am Nap time. She usually wants a nap 1.5-2 hours after waking up in the morning. If she is full, she will usually sleep for 1.5-2 hours.
12:00 pm She is awake and usually eats right away. This is usually when we go run errands like grocery shopping or whatever else we need to accomplish that day.
2:00 pm She is ready for her nap again. If she is full she will sleep for 1.5-2 hours.
3:30 pm She wakes up and then she eats a plays for a while.
5:00 pm Sometimes she take a nap sometimes she doesn't. It depends on how long her earlier naps are and what time her naps are. The earlier or shorter her naps the more likely she will need a third nap. I usually try to get dinner together during this time.
6:00 pm Dad's home! She usually wakes up around this time and we have dinner and she eats her solid food for the day. After dinner we have family play time before we start her bedtime routine.
7:15 pm I usually start to feed her at this time and then she gets her extra bottle of milk. Then we go upstairs and get jammies and are usually in bed by 8pm.
Between 9 pm and 4 am she usually will wake up a few times and want her pacifier back or sometimes she wants to be fed. I figure she needs all the calories she can get so she has been eating a lot through the night which has been helping her sleep a little longer in the morning.

Sloane Marie | Six Months

What's new?
She is no longer swaddled for sleeping, we have been using the Baby Merlin Sleep Suit instead
No longer in a bassinet in our room, she is in her crib in her room down the hall
Rolled from back to tummy and now is rolling all over the place. She can roll from tummy to back, but tends to forget and ends up getting stuck.
Responds to her name
Will reach for our food when we are eating and has spilled a few things in the process
Can sit for a few minutes while supported, but usually ends up face planting
Gets bored quickly, and usually wants someone with her to play
Actually enjoys her toys and will roll onto her tummy and reach for things
She started going to childcare for an hour and a half once a week
She started sitting in her highchair

I don't want to forget the way her smile takes over her whole face. The look she gives me when I go to get her out of her crib. Her eyes when someone takes her to hold her instead of me. Her little giggle when I tickle her. How much she has really changed this month. The way she went from barely moving to rolling and moving all over the place basically overnight.

Weight: 13 pounds 10.5 ounces. At Birth: 5 pounds 6 ounces. This puts her in about the 9th percentile. My pediatrician is not exactly worried about her weight, but she wants to make sure she does not continue to drop percentile. We have another weight check in a month and she wants me to try to increase my supply to see if that is an issue.

Height: 24 inches (2nd percentile)  At Birth: 18.5 inches

Hair: Light Brown

Eyes: Still holding blue!

Clothes: She is officially wearing 3-6 month clothes, but definitely still fits in 0-3. We still have 0-3 pants in the mix since they fit her best.

Diapers: Still loving cloth. She is wearing the smallest setting in her Grovia one size diaper.

Nicknames: Homegirl, Princess, Beautiful, Sloane Baby

-Being held by mommy or daddy
-Smiling and laughing. She is much more willing to do that for us. But only for us, she mostly just stares at everyone else.
-Holding people's faces
-Looking at screens and gets distracted by them while eating
-Going exploring! Wether its a walk, grocery shopping or a Target run, she is entertained for hours.

-Waiting to eat
-Getting buckled in her carseat

Eat: Eating has been going really well. I think she has been hungry more often so I have been feeding her a snack right before she takes a nap. This has been helping her sleep longer and better for nap time. I think this is definitely a sign she was ready to start eating more food. I will update on solids next month.

Sleep: Oh sleep. It has been an interesting month for sleep. It started when she started fighting the swaddle hard core and was really close to rolling over in the swaddle. That was when I realized I needed to transition her out of her swaddle. I knew she was still wanting to be snug so we got the Baby Merlin's sleep suit as a transitional swaddle. When I would try to let her sleep without the swaddle her arms would flail about and keep her awake. The sleep suit worked great but she still had to adjust to being less snug while sleeping. I also noticed that she was getting heavy for her bassinet and it would tip so that her feet would end up above her head slightly which I am sure was not that comfortable. So with her new sleep suit, she started sleeping in her crib in her own room. The first night was awful and after nearly two hours of on and off crying and me going to comfort her, I gave up and brought her back into our room and she slept. I kept doing nap time in her crib and she was fine with that. Over the next week or so she fought the crib less and less until she finally adjusted and now sleeps mostly through the night again with a few wake ups here and there. Also, we are still in the process of dropping a nap which works some days and not so much other days. Home girl loves her naps. But she started sleeping less overnight because she was sleeping too much during the day so we are slowly working towards a two nap day.

Her schedule is pretty similar to what it was last month, but we are working towards one nap in the morning and one nap in the afternoon and a cat nap in the evening. She usually has her last feeding of the day at 7:30 pm and down for the night by 8 pm. If she wakes up before 7, it is really hard to keep her to only two naps. So I just call her first really early nap a continuation of her night sleep. We will get there eventually.
