Sloane Marie | Three Months

What's new?
First bottle given by daddy
First baseball game, Texas Rangers
First time going bowling
Recognizes mommy's face
Holds head up steady
Smiles consistently

I don't want to forget the way she stretches in the morning after being un-swaddled. The face she makes when she recognizes me. The way she smiles when she is done nursing. The sound of her happy coos. When she will be crying hysterically, but you put the pacifier in and her eyes glaze over and she falls asleep for a split second. Her bald patch on the back of her head.

Weight: Probably around 12 pounds. No appointment this month.  At Birth: 5 pounds 6 ounces

Height: No appointment this month.  At Birth: 18.5 inches

Hair: Light Brown. It is also starting to fall out a little (insert sobbing emoji)

Eyes: Still blue. Richard thinks they are getting a little green tint to them.

Clothes: Still wearing 0-3. There are a few clothes in this size that are getting small, but most of the stuff still fits her pretty well. She will probably move into the next size by next month.

Diapers: Still in size 1.

Nicknames: Homegirl, Princess, Princess Warrior, Peanut, Pumpkin

Likes:
Having a full tummy.
Her special white noise. It is guaranteed to get her to stop crying.
Baths
Bouncing on the exercise ball with Daddy
Her play mat--until it stopped working

Dislikes:
Riding in the car for too long
When we don't let her get a full nap because we are not home
Eating when she is not hungry

Eat: She consistently eats every 3-4 hours. These last few weeks she has been weird about eating. She has been less interested and if she doesn't want to eat she will cry when I try to feed her. She definitely knows what she wants. There will also be times when she will cry and I have to calm her down with a pacifier before she will decide she is ready to eat. Not sure what that is about. I have noticed that she is eating for less time at each feeding, which I think is because she is not gaining weight quite as quickly. She really packed on the weight the first two months and that has slowed down a lot.

Sleep: Sleep is still pretty good and consistent. I was hoping that she would stretch her sleep to be more than 8 hours, but she is stuck on sleeping no more than eight hours. There are some days that she will wake up at 5:30 and not want to eat but she will need her pacifier to go back to sleep. Sometimes it takes her awhile to fall back to sleep too. I experimented a little bit this last month with putting her to bed earlier and having a "dream feed" right before I went to bed. It basically backfired and she would end up waking up earlier and being ready to be awake for the morning. So I stopped doing that. There are times during the day when she will take more than a 2 hour nap and I am never sure if I should let her keep sleeping or wake her up so that it does not interfere with night sleep. Part of me thinks she gets too much sleep during the day which is why her night time sleep has remained the same.

Schedule
7am This is her normal wake up time. Sometimes it is earlier or later but it usually does not vary by more than 30 minutes in either direction. After eating she is usually awake and happy for about a half hour. We try to get dressed during this time, but it doesn't always happen. This is also when she normally would get a bath.
8 am About an hour after waking up she starts to get crabby and will go down for her first nap. This is usually her best and longest nap of the day. I usually end up waking her up to eat again.
10/10:30 am She usually will wake up from her nap around this time to eat. After she eats we have 30 minutes of happy wake time. I try to do tummy time every day during this time.
11 am She will go down for another nap an hour after waking up from her last one.
1:00 pm She wakes up again to eat and we play for about a half hour.
1:30 pm If we are going to go somewhere this is normally when we do that. Usually it is lunch with mommy's friend. Because we are out and about this nap usually is pretty short.
3:30 pm Time to eat again.
4:00 pm She is usually ready for a nap sooner at this time of day since she did not get a great nap while we were on the go.
5:30 pm Feed then we usually go on a walk as a family so she falls asleep in her carrier.
7:30/8:30 pm Evenings are usually a question mark. She tends to eat closer together and she is usually crabby when she is awake. Sometimes she sleeps, sometimes she doesn't. We usually stay home at this time because we never know.
10 pm We have our last feeding at this time and then she goes down for the night. She usually falls asleep between 10:30 and 11.

Five on Friday

Well it has been a while since I have sat down to write a blog post! For me, it is not so much about not being able to find the time and more to do with "I don't know what to write anymore". I also forget to write a lot of the time. Whoops. So I am hoping to start writing more again. These days, my time is filled with baby snuggles and diaper changes so most likely I will be talking more about mommy stuff. I originally did not want to become just another mommy blog, but the reality is that I really am not doing much else these days so its hard not to talk about that. Here are some things we have been up to recently!

one. I decided a few weeks ago that I wanted to do something different with my hair. I have always had the same look and these days it kept looking dull and boring. Not to mention the fact that it was always so tangled. It would take me 10 minutes in the shower to get a brush through it, so crazy! So I knew I needed a haircut and figured while I was there that I could add some color to it. I have only gotten highlights once in my life so I was a little nervous. I wanted to add some blonde with it being more subtle at the top of my head and slowly more color at the bottom. My stylist did a great job and I love it so far! It makes even my bad hair days look more intentional and cute.
two. Now that I feel more confident in this whole mommy thing, I have been trying to make time for working out more. I am not necessarily trying to lose a specific amount of weight or anything, I just want to get some more muscles and rebuild what was affected during my pregnancy. I love that Emily Ley talks about being strong not skinny. I love thinking about it that way and it makes me want to work to strengthen this body. I found a workout through Jillian Michaels that I can do at home using our Apple TV. The one I am currently following is specifically for postpartum. It is 3 different workouts that are 30 minutes that target 3 areas of the body (arms, core, legs). I have been trying to do the three different workouts once a week and so far so good. Richard and I also go on a three mile walk every night after work and that is always something to look forward to.

three. I had motivation the other day and I did a big purge of a whole bunch of clothes in my closet. I have been holding on to some pieces for years because I loved them at one point, but they did not fit me anymore. I was very harsh and ended up getting rid of three garbage bags worth of clothes. It was something I have been needing to do for a while and finally decided it was time. I pulled out some name brand stuff and am hoping to sell some of that somewhere. We had a local donation pick up scheduled so that we could get it out of the house fast. We ended up with 8 boxes and two garbage bags worth of stuff. We have been meaning to drop off donations for a while, but kept putting it off and now it is finally gone!
four. Last weekend we made a last minute decision to go to a Texas Ranger's game. We have been talking bout going to for a while and Richard's brother is temporarily staying with us so we wanted something to do. We had a lot of fun, but it was not without its struggles. Sloane had a major meltdown when we were trying to get out the door. She refused to eat and was crying hysterically. I eventually got her calm enough to eat so we could leave. That delayed us about 40 minutes and then we hit traffic which delayed us another 30 minutes. By the time we parked, got into the game, got food and sat down we had already missed two innings. I also did not feel comfortable nursing in my seat with so many people so close together so we left to do that in the middle and we left early since it was getting late and we had a long drive back. But the few innings we were able to watch were really fun. Next time we will just have to target an earlier arrival time just in case of any delays.
five. This kid. I don't have anything specific to say. She is just the best.

Sloane Marie | Two Months

Sloane is already changing so much, especially in these last few weeks! She started packing on the weight recently and I can tell by her giant belly and cute thigh rolls. She has a pretty consistent routine which she fell into mostly on her own. She is mostly predictable which makes life a whole lot easier on us. She has been more interactive lately and she loves to make faces at us. She will smile when we smile occasionally, but you can see her little brain working to try and copy our faces. Sometime she will give these little half smiles like she is thinking about smiling, but she is not quite sure how to do it just yet. Her neck is getting stronger and she will hold her head up mostly on her own these days. She does tend to turn her head to her right more often than to the left so I am going to ask the doc about that. She is much more independent these days and is willing to play on her mat by herself. She kicks her feet and moves her arms while looking up at the mobile hanging above her and makes happy noises. Dressing her in her bigger clothes has been so much fun and we finally get to use all the cute outfits we stocked up on. We just love everything about this girl!

What's New?
First time on an Airplane
First trip to Minnesota and Wisconsin
First chiropractic adjustment
First time sleeping through the night
First responsive smile, but it is not consistent.

I don't want to forget The way she stretches in the morning after a long night. The little coos she makes when she is happy. The way her eyes glaze over when she gets her pacifier. Her stink eye when she wants to see what is going on, but does not want to fully open her eyes. Her tiny little hips that can't hold up her diaper or pants. Her little squawk when she wants you to know she is upset.

Weight: 10 pounds, 10 ounces. At Birth: 5 pounds 6 ounces

Height: 22 inches. At Birth: 18.5 inches

Hair: Light Brown

Eyes: Still blue!

Clothes: She is officially wearing 0-3 clothes! We just recently started putting her in those, but even in the last week they have started fitting her better. We will have to pack away the newborn clothes soon because they no longer fit.

Diapers: She just moved into size 1 this past week.

Nicknames: Homegirl, Princess, Princess Warrior, Peanut

Likes:
Bath time, so warm!
Sleeping in the Solly wrap
Music
Driving in the car
Gnawing on her hands
Her Pacifier
Pulling/grabbing mommy's hair

Dislikes:
Getting out of the bath, so cold!
Being cold or hot
Missing out on the action
Getting the hiccups (She gets them at least once a day)
When the car stops moving

Eat: Sloane is very consistent when it comes to eating. She wants to eat every three hours almost to the minute. If she wakes up from a nap early she will sometimes want to eat closer to 2.5 hours. We are still exclusively breastfeeding and she is doing great. I am trying to build up a stash of frozen milk and maybe soon we will be able to give her a bottle. I have noticed recently that her feedings are taking less time in each sitting. It used t take her about 30 minutes and now it is closer to 15-20 minutes.

Sleep: This girl is an awesome sleeper! She started sleeping through the night this last month and the first night that happened was the night before Mother's Day. What a gift! I have been working hard this month to get her to fall asleep on her own without any help. She has done so well with zero crying! If we are at home and not planning on going somewhere, I make sure she gets a good nap in her bassinet. When she starts to get fussy I get her ready for sleep by swaddling her and turning on the white noise and laying her down for a nap. At first, I had to sit with her and gently rock her back and forth to get her to fall asleep. Now, she will fall asleep pretty easily on her own without issue. She will then sleep 1.5-2 hours. At night, we have essentially the same routine except she still sleeps in the mamaroo overnight. I don't turn it on anymore unless she is especially cranky or having a hard time falling asleep. I am hoping to transition her to the bassinet to sleep overnight soon. Once she is down for the night she will sleep until about 6 or 7 am.

Schedule
6-7am She normally wakes up around this time. We are slowly working on having our official wake up time be 7 am for the day. She eats right away when she wakes up followed by about 30 minutes of being awake and happy.
The rest of these times are based on her waking up at 6. If she wakes up later then everything will shift by how much after 6 she woke up. No day is the exact same, but this is a rough estimate.
7 am About an hour after waking up she starts to get crabby and will go down for her first nap. Mommy usually naps with her at this time.
9 am She usually will wake up from her nap around this time to eat. After she eats we have 30 minutes of happy wake time. This is usually when she gets a bath if she needs one. Otherwise, she gets dressed for the day and we have some play time.
10 am She will go down for another nap an hour after waking up from her last one. This nap tends to be shorter and she will usually wake up after an hour and a half.
11:30 am She wakes up again to eat and we play for about a half hour.
12:30 pm Depending on what we have planned for the day this nap will either take place at home or on the go. We tend to meet up with people for lunch during this nap so it usually takes place in the car or at a restaurant. She will usually take a good nap even if we are on the go.
2:30 pm Time to eat again. Then she will be awake for about thirty minutes.
3:30 pm Nap time.
