Sloane Marie | Eight months

PS. I swear I will get back into normal blogging again sometime soon, but it has been a busy season and I can't right now. I have not abandoned the blog. I love this space and I will be back.

What's new?
She is eating at least once a day, but most days its twice. She has started eating pieces of food that she can put in her mouth herself which she is enjoying.
She is on the move! Still crawling in her own way, but she crawled from our fireplace, across the living room, dining room and into the kitchen last night.
Celebrated her first Halloween as a Unicorn and went trick or treating for the first time.
Celebrated her first Thanksgiving, but was pretty sick with a cold that included a nasty cough that scared both her parents. That was a rough few days.
Visited her dad at work for the first time.

I don't want to forget The way she shakes her head all the time. How happy she gets when I get her out of her crib, especially in the morning. Her look of determination when she wants something. The way her crawl looks more like a worm, it is efficient though. The way her little hand is always moving though I am not sure she knows she is doing it. She is so proud of herself when she can get across the room to me and it is the best form of entertainment. The way she scrunches up her face when she gets mad. Loves baby story time, especially the tick-tock song. Her little shriek when she gets really happy. How tickle-ish she is underneath her chin. The way her little feet kick when she is laying on her back.

Weight: 14 pounds, 14 ounces. (10th percentile)  At Birth: 5 pounds 6 ounces.

Height: We didn't check this month, but we will next month. At Birth: 18.5 inches

Hair: Light Brown

Eyes: Still holding blue!

Clothes: She has outgrown her 3-6 month pants officially and is wearing mostly 6-9 or 6-12 month clothes. We still have some 3-6 month tops in the mix because I can't let them go just yet.

Diapers: Still loving cloth and I have made her diapers a little bigger by changing the rise of the diaper.

Nicknames: Homegirl, Princess, Beautiful, Sloane Baby, Tiny Human

-Her musical piano
-Sleeping in her own crib
-Shaking her head
-New toys or adventure
-Feeding herself

-Sun in her eyes (she gets sooo mad)
-The Nosefrida
-When the bottle of milk is empty
-Getting in her carseat
-Her snow suit
-Being thrown in the air

Eat: Solids are still going really well! She loves all the fruit we have given her and most of the veggies. Green veggies are not her jam, but carrots and beets are delicious. I have also been giving her more table food to practice eating and it has been going well for the most part. She makes a giant mess while eating and probably doesn't actually eat much, but its good practice and she loves it. She has been fighting purees a little more mostly because she is ms. independent and would rather feed herself. Nursing is still going great and she usually eats when she wakes up. We are still supplementing with a bottle of milk right before bed and she gets so excited when she sees the bottle. She knows and she loves it.

Sleep: Her sleeping has been so much better these days. Last month was so rough and I was frustrated, but I think it was a result of the not eating enough. Now that I have fixed that problem things have been much smoother. She is still eating once a night most night, but since she is still tiny I'm not too worried about it. She lets me sleep until almost 9 most days so I can't complain. There have been a few nights even that she has not woke at all so I am very grateful for the new sleep routine.

8:30-9:00 am Awake for the day. She usually eats right away, then she gets her diaper changed and gets dressed.
9:30 am We head downstairs and I try to remember to feed her some table food in the morning.
11:00 am Nap time. She usually gets tired about 2 hours after waking up. Lately this nap has been shorter, an hour to an hour and a half normally.
12:30 pm She is awake and usually eats right away. This is usually when we go run errands like grocery shopping or whatever else we need to accomplish that day.
2:30/3:00 pm I can usually get her to stay awake a little longer during this time so I try to feed her before she goes down for a nap.
3:00 pm Nap time. She will usually take a 2 hour nap, sometimes longer.
5:00 pm She usually wakes up around this time and if she wakes up late enough she doesn't need a third nap. It depends on the day, but more often these days she has been taking only two naps.
6:00 pm Dad's home! We usually have dinner right away and she eats solids while we eat. After dinner we have family play time before we start her bedtime routine.
7:15 pm I usually start to feed her at this time and then she gets her extra bottle of milk. Then we go upstairs and get jammies and are usually in bed by 8pm.
She will sometime wake up once at night for a feeding between 3 and 5, but goes back to sleep immediately.

Sloane Marie | Seven Months

Just a quick update that sets the scene for this month. When we went in for our six month pediatrician appointment, our pediatrician was concerned about her size. She is on the low end for her weight and really low end for height. So we decided that I would try to feed her an additional 1-2 ounces of pumped milk right before bed to see if that will help her gain more weight. I actually decided to take it a step further and met with a lactation consultant to see if there was more going on than I realized. We came to the conclusion that my supply is on the low end and I had no idea. So I have been working hard this month to try and increase my supply. I have been taking supplements and pumping regularly and I can definitely tell the difference. I also feel like Sloane has been getting more milk at each feeding and has been less hungry because of that. At the begining of the month I was having issues with her waking up far more often and I came to the conclusion that it is because she was hungry. So we have slowly been getting better and she is much more happy these days. We went to the pediatrician at the end of the month and she gained almost a pound this month which is great! She should be gaining a pound a month, so we are close to that goal, but in comparison between 4 months and 6 months so only gained one pound 4 ounces. So it is definitely an improvement. Now onto the rest of the monthly update.

What's new?
She went from hardly moving to crawling in less than a month. Her crawl is unique, but efficient. She looks like she is doing the worm to get across the floor.
She has tried avocado, carrots, sweet potatoes, peas with zucchini and mint, applesauce, pears, blueberries, and bananas. She has eaten all of it happily but loves applesauce and carrots the most.
She sits in her highchair easily now and enjoys sitting in it out in public too.
We also started putting her in the cart when we go grocery shopping and she does well most of the time, until she gets tired.
She is so busy and we can't trust her in our lap when we have food or dishes in front of us. She loves to grab anything within reach.
Loves to play all by herself on the floor. Those toys are so entertaining.
She loved her sleep suit for a few weeks, but quickly grew out of it. She started rolling onto her tummy in it which isn't recommended so we transitioned her into a sleep sack so she has more freedom.
She had her first cold that was paired with an ear infection.

I don't want to forget the way she scrunches up her shoulders when she gets mad, especially when getting buckled into the car seat. Her determined face when she is crawling to get something she wants. How much she loves her Paisley dog, which is not reciprocated. Her little arm pounding up and down all the time. The way she crawls by pushing up on her toes and lunging forward. The way she eyes everything that we eat and wants to have some too. How much she loves to look at screens and I have to shut everything off to get her attention.

Weight: 14 pounds 7 ounces (14th percentile) At Birth: 5 pounds 6 ounces.

Height: 24.25 inches (2nd percentile)  At Birth: 18.5 inches

Hair: Light Brown

Eyes: Still holding blue!

Clothes: She is wearing mostly 3-6 month clothes. Some of the onesies are starting to get small, but that is mostly because of her giant diaper.

Diapers: Still loving cloth. She is wearing the smallest setting in her Grovia one size diaper.

Nicknames: Homegirl, Princess, Beautiful, Sloane Baby

-Petting Paisley dog. Everytime she gets close Paisley runs away like she has been injured
-Touching faces. She especially loves to grab mommy's face and try to suck on her chin
-Her Piano toys
-Food. She get impatient in her high chair waiting for the food in the microwave.

-The nosefrida or having her nose touched at all
-Getting buckled in her car seat
-Being cold

Eat: Solids have been going great! She has not really disliked anything we have given her. She has a few that she will eat more of than others, but overall she is loving all food. Nursing has been going better. I have been trying to feed her as much as she will eat which still does not always feel like a lot. We have been giving her a bottle after nursing at night and she always sucks it down and acts like she wants more.

Sleep: The begining of this month was really rough. She was hungry all the time and would wake up often to eat. She has always been a two hour napper, and she was waking up after barely an hour just so crabby and I think it was because she was hungry. I started feeding her a little right before she would go down for a nap and that helped her stay asleep for longer. Overnight was also rough and she was waking up every two hours to eat and this mama was tired. She would also fight going back to sleep after eating which she has never done before. Slowly as I worked to build my milk supply up again, she started sleeping longer. Now, she still wakes at about 4 in the morning to eat a full meal and sometime she will wake up an additional time overnight wanting more food. For the most part though, sh has been going back to sleep immediately so I have been feeling more rested.

Schedule (She has recently fallen into this schedule so we will see if it sticks)
8:30 am Awake for the day. She used to always be awake at 7, but lately it has been later and I am grateful for the extra few hours of sleep.
9:00 am We are done eating and I usually change her into her clothes for the day and we play in her room for a while before heading downstairs.
10:00 am Nap time. She usually wants a nap 1.5-2 hours after waking up in the morning. If she is full, she will usually sleep for 1.5-2 hours.
12:00 pm She is awake and usually eats right away. This is usually when we go run errands like grocery shopping or whatever else we need to accomplish that day.
2:00 pm She is ready for her nap again. If she is full she will sleep for 1.5-2 hours.
3:30 pm She wakes up and then she eats a plays for a while.
5:00 pm Sometimes she take a nap sometimes she doesn't. It depends on how long her earlier naps are and what time her naps are. The earlier or shorter her naps the more likely she will need a third nap. I usually try to get dinner together during this time.
6:00 pm Dad's home! She usually wakes up around this time and we have dinner and she eats her solid food for the day. After dinner we have family play time before we start her bedtime routine.
7:15 pm I usually start to feed her at this time and then she gets her extra bottle of milk. Then we go upstairs and get jammies and are usually in bed by 8pm.
Between 9 pm and 4 am she usually will wake up a few times and want her pacifier back or sometimes she wants to be fed. I figure she needs all the calories she can get so she has been eating a lot through the night which has been helping her sleep a little longer in the morning.
