Dino-Mite Birthday Party

Today is my nephew's fourth birthday! In honor of his birthday, I figured I could share the pictures from his fourth birthday party that my sister held at the begining of this month. She had a Dinosaur Safari theme and it was super cute! She had a hat, paper vest and binoculars for each of the big kids. Once the kids arrived, they could decorate their vests or get a dinosaur tattoo while they waited for everyone to arrive. Then, she had a dino egg hunt in the backyard. His cake was even dinosaur dirt cake. I love helping out with making some of the decor for these parties. It makes me feel like I actually got to help plan and I can pretend I am not a thousand miles away.

I loved the party and loved that I was able to celebrate with him, even though it was not quite his birthday. Happy Birthday little mister! Hope that your fourth birthday is the best birthday yet!

Five on Friday

Yay for Friday! I have been a little baby heavy on the blog posts these days, mostly because I have a lot to catch you up on, but also because it really is consuming. So today I have a few things that have been happening in these parts that are not baby related. And since it is Friday, I will do a Five on Friday!

one. Last weekend, my sister and I headed to the Dallas Arboretum to see their pumpkin display. They had some really sweet pictures so we were really excited to see the whole display. Turns out they had less than half as many pumpkins as they normally do because the pumpkins were rotten when they arrived. So it was a little disappointing, but still fun to go see the display they did have.
two. When I was walking into the Arboretum with my sister, I was trying to put a credit card behind my phone in its case and in the process I dropped my phone, without its case, face down onto the concrete of the parking garage. And of course my phone shattered immediately. It was actually really bad, but thankfully we have Apple Care on my phone and this happened within a few weeks of my Apple Care running out. So we went to the Apple store the other day and I got a brand new phone, plus we added a Zagg screen protector to it and I got a new case. So basically my phone is good to go for a while now and hopefully when my Apple Care runs out, I don't have to worry about breaking it again.
three. This update is probably long overdue. Does anyone remember me saying that we were going to try to have puppies with Paisley? Well, we tried and long story short, for some reason Paisley did not get pregnant. I guess we have that in common. After we knew for sure she was not pregnant, we took her into the vet for her yearly shots and also to schedule a surgery for a lump that she had in one of her breasts. Turns out the doctor told us that this type of tumor can be removed, but it is likely to reoccur and it is fed by estrogen. And since Paisley was not fixed, he recommended we get her fixed to prevent future tumors and he said she was probably too old to have puppies anyway So we had the surgery to both get her tumor removed and to also get her fixed a few weeks ago. It makes me so sad to know that we will never get a Paisley puppy because I always wanted to continue my dad's line of dogs through her, but if this keeps her alive longer I'll take it. We found out that the tumor was benign so that is a relief at least. Paisley has been doing great post-surgery and still as high energy as always.
four. Work. Oh the dreaded work. Without going into too much detail, my job has not exactly been my favorite thing lately for a number of reasons. I am trying to stick it out as long as possible, but it has been rough. As much as I am struggling with my job these day, I will say that I have met some really fun people along the way and they make work worth going to every day.
five. Since my husband has had an abundance of time these days now that the whole grad school thing is almost over, he has decided to take up a million hobbies. His favorite one these days is his adventures in home brewing beer. I am a little to blame for this one because I bought him a beer making kit for Christmas last year, but he only recently attempted to do it. After brewing that batch, he went to a local home brew store and stocked up on a whole bunch of supplies and is currently in the process of brewing 5 gallons of beer, which equates to about 2 24-packs of beer. He is having so much fun with it and has been doing all sorts of research on the topic. While I don't exactly share his passion for it, I love that he loves it so it has been fun.
So there is a little mini update on what we have been up to recently. Have a great weekend!
