Five on Friday

This week has been an interesting one. Nothing too stressful, just a whole lot of things that have made it so that I have only spent one night at home after work without any other obligations. We rarely do anything on week nights so it was a little odd to have so much going on. I am grateful for the weekend to come so that I have a chance to catch up again. Here are some highlights from this week.

One.  Within the last week, we have had two different groups of family/friends book travel to come down and visit us in Texas! We are super, super excited about both trips, one in early March and the other end of April. We hardly had any visitors come to Louisiana since it was so expensive to get there so we are excited to have visitors now. It helps that we have a full guest room to offer to people whenever they feel like coming.

Two. I have been going to yoga roughly twice a week for a little over a month now and I am already impressed with the results. I have never really been strong and I have always just accepted that I never would be. The first week we did yoga we had to do a side plank (pictured below), which requires strength in the shoulders, arms and core, all of which I do not have. I could not even hold this pose for 5 seconds and I ended up doing an easier version with my lower arm bent. Well this last week, we were asked to do a side plank and I was extremely excited that I was not only able to do it, but also able to hold it without too much strain. Yess!

Three. Having all of our fire alarms wired together seemed like a great idea until they all decided to go off in the middle of the night. The other night, one of the alarms that has been acting up decided to start beeping randomly but loudly at 3:30 in the morning. After trying to ignore it for over an hour, I nudged Richard (who of course slept through the whole thing so far) and told him we needed to do something so I could go to sleep. He muttered something incoherent about not fixing it and I decided to just get up and try to replace the battery on the one alarm that was making noise. The second I pulled the battery out of the alarm, all of the other alarms in the house started blaring. Richard then decided to help me, but we could not figure out for the life of us how to get them to stop. Finally, they stopped on their own so we decided to go back to sleep. Then, five minutes later they went off again. The noise is so overwhelming it is incredibly hard to even think. After another five minutes of the blaring alarm, we decided to just cut power to the alarms in an effort to get some sleep. Then, the alarms started chirping like they needed a battery fixed so we replaced batteries we could and then pulled the battery out of the other ones. By this time it was 5 in the morning and we were both exhausted. Definitely did not enjoy that in the middle of the night.

Four. My husband and his man cave. He decided recently that he was going to use the attic space as a place for him to sit and smoke his cigars on days when it is too chilly to sit out front. Since he uses his cigar time to work on his dissertation, I can't have any objections. I sat with him outside last night even though being up there really freaks me out. Also, notice the book in his hands? Yes, I convinced him to re-read Harry Potter and he has made his way through half of the 5th book in the last three days.

Five. 43 Days until I got to Minnesota for my niece's birthday. 67 days until Richard goes to California for SIOP. 110 Days until we go to Europe. That is a lot to look forward to!

Have a great weekend!
