Family Extended Weekend

This weekend, with the anniversary, my family planned to come down and visit so that we had a good distraction. My sister had the idea that every year on the anniversary we should plan something fun to do, like a vacation, that way we have something to look forward to instead of dreading this date. Last year, we went to Six Flags St Louis and this year my family (minus my older sister and her family) came to Texas to visit us!

We spent a lot of time at the pool in our neighborhood. We have access to a great pool with our new house so it was fun to experience it for the first time with my family.
We headed into Dallas one night to go to the Truck Yard. The concept here is that they have an area with a bunch of recycled chairs and tables and then they have three food trucks come in every night. They also have a permanent bar for drinks. It was really a fun concept and the food was amazing. When we were done with food, we walked across the street and got popsicles from steel city pops-they are well known in this area and are delicious.
We spent all day Friday, pretty much open to close, at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor water park. We had a great time and surprisingly did not get burnt. We also had a picnic outside our car mid-day which was the best way to avoid the overpriced food within the park.
We also spent some time at Dave & Buster's. A place where you can be a kid again.
After Dave & Busters, we headed into Forth Worth and stopped at the stockyards. We did not have a whole lot of time to explore, but we were able to walk the streets and then enjoy one of the many restaurants that was there.
The whole reason we went to Fort Worth that day was to go to the drive in movie theater. The theater is located in the middle of the city so you could see the skyline behind the screen. They show two movies at a time and on this day we saw Minions and Inside Out. Minions was not very exciting. I know it is a kid's movie, but they are usually at least entertaining. Inside Out, however, was really good and I am glad that movie was second or I may have fell asleep.
To fill time on one of our days, we headed to a place that had mini golf and go karts. Both were pretty entertaining for us, even if they are marketed for kids.
On my family's last day, we headed to the Fort Worth Zoo. My sister really wanted to go so we made sure to go on a day when just my sister, my dad and I could go. The elephants were super cute and we got to watch them swim and splash each other.
We had a pretty busy six days, but it was nice to have my family down to see where I live and also to have them as a distraction from what the weekend could have been. Now we only need to decide where we should go next year.
