New Places, New Faces

Moving to a new place is always hard at first. We have moved to two new places in the last three years. Before that I spent my entire life in one place. While we are really excited to be in Texas, there are certain things I forgot about when it comes to moving to a new place.
Sense of Direction. Basically, I have no idea where I am going. You have to re-learn how to get places and which roads take you where. Since we are now living in such a huge place, it is even harder to learn. There are so many roads that can take you where you need to go. When you live in one place for an extended period of time, you learn back ways and short cuts to your destinations. Right now I can't drive a mile without needing a GPS to get me to where I am going.

Familiarity. When you have lived somewhere for a while you know your favorite restaurants. Your favorite  ice cream shop. Your favorite grocery store. Your favorite walking trail. The best vet or boarding for your dog. I spent most of last week trying to find a place that would take my dog for a weekend. But since she is not spayed, most places will either not take her or will not let her interact with other dogs. We finally found a place, but when you move to a new place you have to start over in finding your "favorites".

Social. This one is pretty obvious, but living in a new place means there are few people that you know. We know some people, mostly people from Richard's work. Meeting new people in a new city is always a challenge. I am honestly not super concerned about it right now. Richard barely has time for me these days, let alone a bunch of friends. I am sure we will slowly meet new people and build up our social network.

Routine. Since I had to quit my job to move here, I have had to figure out my new routine. Hence, why blogging has been a bit of a struggle these days. But, this will come with time too. I operate better having a schedule and am able to plan out my day.

Don't get me wrong, moving to a new place is exciting and fun, but its also a little overwhelming. I am sure it will be fine in a few months, but slowly I am getting used to living in Texas.
