April Review

This month went by so quick it is crazy! April is always a good month since it is my birthday month after all. We had a good mix of busy and relaxing this month so I am happy. We are also on our way to being healthy and it feels so good. I have made myself a smoothie for breakfast during the week every day this month and I am loving it! So here is what we were up to this last month.

-I spent a long weekend in Minnesota where I was able to see my family, take a lot of pictures and get a tattoo.

-I celebrated my birthday and turned the big 24!

-I hung out with Kristen quite a few times and took my favorite picture so far with her and her kids.

-Richard and I started running/walking every night that we can. In the past week and a half we have gone six times. We are hoping that this becomes part of our routine so that it does not fade away.

-Richard headed to DC while I headed south for an engagement party with friends.

-I finally finished and hung my map project. I love the way it looks in its new spot.

Work last month was a little crazy so blogging sort of fell apart. I have a few project that I am still hoping to share and I am definitely looking forward to next month. May felt so far away back in October but now it is here and I am super excited for everything to come!

Weekend Update | Engagement Party

This weekend went by pretty quick. Richard was out of town on business so I was grateful for the company I had this weekend.

I had a spur of the moment dinner on Friday. How do I explain this relationship. My aunt's sister's husband's parents were driving through and decided to stop to see Duck Dynasty so they asked me to join them for dinner. I know their son and his family really well, in fact one of their grand daughters was our flower girl for our wedding. I went to dinner with them and it felt like I have always known them. It is sort of crazy how that all works out.
On Saturday, I went with a group of our friends down south about two hours for an engagement party for our close friends. These two got engaged back in January so we went to celebrate with them.

We headed south in the afternoon so that we had time to get dressed before the party. They had a lot of food, drinks and dancing. After the party, our friend's parents were gracious enough to let us stay at their house for the night. The house was as full as it could get with guests spending the night. We hung out by the pool for a while before heading to bed. We all had a place to sleep but things got complicated at night which ended up being a funny story.
The next morning we woke up and they had an amazing brunch for us to eat with some great food. We then headed back toward home to go and finish all of our lists of thing we needed to get done.

By this time Richard had made his way home and we were able to fit in a three mile run and some grocery shopping like we usually do on a Sunday.

Overall it was a very busy weekend, but it was the fun kind of busy that makes it worth it. Now I just need to get some extra sleep to recover a little bit.

Five on Friday

It is Friday! I have a busy weekend ahead so I am hoping to be productive tonight and tomorrow. Last night was as unproductive as a person can get. Oh well. Well here is my Five on Friday!

One.
Richard and I have gone on four walk/runs this week! We have kept up with it and I am so proud. We probably would have done more but we can't again till Sunday but on the days we could go, we went 4 out of those 5 days! Super pumped about that.

Two.
I have been trying to find recipes lately that are a balance of healthy and something that both of us will enjoy. Why is that so hard for us? Well we found a meal this week and it may not be super healthy but we both enjoyed it. Win. The recipe was taquitos and they were delicious. We will tweak some things, but will definitely be having those again in the future.
Three.
I finished editing pictures for one of my most recent photo shoots. I still have a lot of editing to do, but it was nice to be able to finish one whole shoot. My Friday will probably be full of editing. Fun stuff. You can see those pictures on my photography blog over here.

Four.
Three weeks from today we will be in Hawaii!! Ahh! I am so excited, can you tell? We are going with 5 other people and have been coordinating this last week to find some excursions for us to do while we are there. We officially have 3 excursions booked and I think Richard and I will find one more for the two of us-we are staying 3 extra days after the rest of our group leaves.

Five.
If you know anything about me you know that I plan everything. It sort of my thing and I can't help it. As I mentioned in this post it is really hard for me to not keep looking forward to what is to come. I don't know if its because I have been so busy lately or what, but I have been more at peace with where my life is right now. Time is literally flying by and I am ok with it slowing down just a smidge. We have a lot of exciting things on the horizon, but for now I am alright with just keeping up with my day to day tasks. That seems to be enough for me. Things at work have been cray-cray lately so I am trying my best not to let it get to me.

Oh, the Places You'll Go

Hi my name is Alecia and I love to travel.

A while back I saw an idea on one of the blogs I read, to get a map of the United Sates and use straight pins the mark all the places you have visited. So I decided to put together a map for everywhere that Richard and I travel together.

I ended up buying a vintage map I found on Etsy, a cork board and some pins. I put together my map and while I loved the idea, I did not love what I had put together. I originally thought I could paint the frame of the cork board but it turned out to be more difficult than I had anticipated so I ended up doing nothing. The brown of the board was killing me so I needed to do something to fix it.
I saw an idea on pinterest where you take a map and mod podge it to multiple canvases. Which would work perfectly for my map, especially since the map I bought was already in two pieces so I decided to go with it. I bought two 9 by 12 inch canvases from Michaels for about $7. I knew that my map would be on the small side for that canvas so I would still be able to see some of the white around the edges of my map. I decided to paint the edges blue so that it would look more finished.
I then had to trim my map down about a half an inch so that it would fit on my canvas.
Then I used mod podge on my map and the canvas. This was my first time using mod podge so it was a bit of a learning experience. I used a foam brush and worked in small areas to make sure that my map was flat and did not bubble. I put glue both on the canvas (under the map) and on top of the map to make sure it was completely soaked. I then let them dry for about a day before I did anything else with them.
My plan was to hang them back in the same spot that I had before I did any changes. Then my wonderful husband bought me this picture for my birthday and I wanted to put it in a more visible spot so I decided to move the maps elsewhere. The heart is over the Minneapolis area, where we got married, and the date is our anniversary. Such a thoughtful guy.
It took me a while to decide where to put them, but I finally settled on a small wall we have right outside our kitchen. Now that they are hung, I am fully proud of my project. I really like how the mod podge gives the maps a weathered and glossy look. Now we just need to keep traveling so we can add more pins.
Some day we will have to get a world map for all of those travels. Especially since our upcoming Hawaii trip is not on our map (Boo). We have also made a goal to visit all 50 states some day. But so far I am loving the update and it looks far better than my original idea!

April's Past

It is that time of month again. I find I am really enjoying these posts. It is a fun way for me to look back at all my pictures and remember all the fun times we had. April is my birthday month so there will be a lot of birthday celebrations going on. Also, its in the middle of a semester so there was not a whole lot else going on in my months while I was in school.

April 2009
-School was busy busy.
-I celebrated my 19th birthday. These pictures make both of us look like babies.

April 2010
-I celebrated my 20th birthday. Which was also Good Friday that year. That is the interesting part of having a spring birthday. Note Richard's giant beard. Ha! And my mom with her puppy Lacey that she loved so much.

April 2011
-We finally  closed on our house after waiting three months just to hear if our offer was accepted. Remember that from my January post?
-I moved in with my dad for about a month before our house was ready to be moved into.
-I celebrated my 21st birthday on a Saturday without my Husband (then fiance). Richard had a research conference that he had to go to in New York and was not able to celebrate my birthday with me. So instead I invited friends and family to come out to celebrate. And as tradition in my family, when someone cannot attend an important event, you bring them along on a stick. So we had Richard on a stick and had a little too much fun with that one.
-Once Richard got back, he took me to a nice Italian restaurant (of course). After dinner, I went to the bathroom and came back out and noticed a couple tables looking at me. Then the waitress brought out my dessert that said happy birthday. Come to find out that our waitress had brought it out while I was in the bathroom and decided to try again once I got back.

-We went with some friends to Toby Keith's I love This Bar & Grill after my birthday since Richard was not able to go to the bar with us originally.

April 2012
-I finally took my Actuary exam after four months of studying for 6+ hours everyday. All that hard worked paid off because I passed!
-I started working at a preschool on top of my other two jobs. It was for about a month covering someone's maternity leave. So at the point, every Tuesday and Thursday I would work from 7 in the morning to 7 at night going from one job to the next without a break. It was rough, but totally worth it.
-I found out that I was going to be an aunt! I started bawling when I found out because I knew that we were moving and I would not be there when the baby made his/her appearance. We told our extended family at Easter where each of us wore a name tag saying "Auntie" or "Grandpa". Our family was really excited for my sister and I remember my dad with three of his sisters standing in a circle and all of them were crying. I love my family.
-I celebrated my 22nd birthday and we ordered the same cake from our wedding in smaller form because it was so delicious. Yum. Wish I could have some right now.
-We hung out with our friends to celebrate all the April birthdays in our group of friends.

April 2013 is here.

Whew that was a long one. So many fun times here and I love being able to write about it.
