Celebrating Three

Richard and I celebrated our three year anniversary on August 6th. Richard had a conference in Washington, DC that he had to attend that fell over our anniversary. We decided to go together and be able to celebrate while he attended his conference.

We headed to DC late on August 5th so that we could wake up and spend the entire day enjoying Washington. Since it was our first day there we mostly decided to just walk around and explored together.

We started out by walking over to a Starbucks that was close to our hotel and then headed over to the White House since it was closest.

The white house was a lot smaller than I was expecting it to be and since you could not get very close it was not very exciting. We left the White House and walked towards the Lincoln memorial. On the way there we found this area that was semi secluded that we thought would be perfect for our anniversary picture. We decided to make a tradition to take a picture every year on our anniversary. This was the first year we decided not to use a prop in our picture since our year two picture was such a disaster. That is another story for another day. Long story short, my husband did not want to cooperate that day.

Anyway, back to DC. So we set up so that we could take our three year anniversary picture. It took us quite a while to get a few good ones. We tried a couple different locations and these are the best ones from the group.

We then kept walking and finally ended up at the Lincoln memorial, the reflecting pond and in the background in this next picture is the Washington monument. The Lincoln memorial was my favorite memorial.

We then decided to take a cab since we had done a lot of walking already and headed to lunch. We went to a place called District of Pi where they are known for their pizza.

After lunch we decided to keep walking and head toward all the Smithsonian museums. The first one we went to was the Natural History Museum. Inside they had a bunch of different stuffed animals that you could see up close and they also had the history of the humanity. It was cool to see all the animals closer than you could in a zoo. Also, reading about human history was something that interested me. I am not really a museum person so I think Richard enjoyed it much more than I did.

After the museum, we went back to the hotel before heading out to dinner. We went to an Italian restaurant (duh) for dinner called Filomena. It was delicious. After dinner, we walked around a bit and explored and then headed back to the hotel. We were both exhausted at this point from all the walking so we were ready for sleep. I also forgot to take a picture of our dinner date. I think I was too hungry to focus on anything but food.
So that was our anniversary celebration. Our day spent together was perfect and mostly distraction free. It was fun to just hang out with my husband without thinking about everything else we had going on. I have more DC posts coming up this week!
