Commitment to Health

I have decided that I need to get healthy. Over the past few months, I have made some life changes that I think have started me down the right path. I eat raw until dinnertime, meaning I only eat fruits and vegetables while I am at work. I have cut back on sweets and I have stopped drinking soda. My husband and I have tried to find healthier meals to make and we make home cooked meals 90% of the time.

We are on the right track and I thought I was doing really well. Then work offered a biometric screening, which is where they take your height, weight, blood pressure, and they check your cholesterol and glucose levels. And I was not very happy with my results. And it made me realize that I needed to do something about it. Making these little changes were great, but I need more. I need to workout more.

I have been touch and go with my workout habits. Some months are really good and I feel great. Then other months are terrible and I don't get out of the house to workout more than a few times. My husband and I try to go on walks pretty regularly, but then he got busy with school and going on walks got put on the back burner. And I am the type of person that if I am used to doing something with someone, it makes me not want to do it alone. So when he was busy I stopped working out too.

But I have made the decision to start working out regardless of anybody else. I need to do this for me so that I can get healthy. If he has to study one night, then I will go use the exercise equipment that our apartment offers. And on the nights that he will join me, we can go take a walk on our favorite trail. Whatever it is, I need to aim for 30 minutes of activity daily.

I never realized how much less moving you really do when you work at a desk. Before moving to Louisiana, I worked with kids so I was always on the move and on my feet. Now I spend nine hours a day sitting at a desk with minimal movement.

I want exercise to become a part of my daily routine. That there is never a question of whether I will get a workout in on any given day. If it is part of my routine then I just know its going to happen. I actually really enjoy going on walks with my husband. Its the perfect one on one time that we get with no distraction where we can just talk about our days. I definitely notice a difference in our relationship when we go on walks together.

So this is my commitment. I want to get healthy. I want to workout more. I want to eat healthier and eat more vegetables. I am ready to make a change. I am doing this for me and I am going to keep working at it daily.
