August Review

Is August Really over already? I cannot believe that September is right around the corner! September should be a full month, but first let's review August.

Here are my favorite things from this past month. (P.s. Two posts in one day I think is a first for me!)

1. Celebrating out second anniversary on August 6th! We had such a good time on our date and looking though all of our wedding pictures. And I look forward to many more years of happiness!

2. Celebrating one year in Louisiana. So proud of my husband for finishing his first year in his doctoral program. Two more years and he will be graduating!

3. Having Richard's family come visit us here is Louisiana was amazing! I think we experienced more restaurants in our area while they were here than we have experienced in the last year. We were also able to venture down to New Orleans which was fun!

4. My new purse. I am seriously so in love. The color is amazing and it goes with all my outfits so far. A special thanks to my in-laws for buying it for me!

5. My new found inspiration for my clothing outfits. I found some skirts at LOFT Outlet near Baton Rouge and I am obsessed! It has inspired me to dress nicer everyday! It only takes me a few minutes to pick out a cute outfit so I am excited that I am finally doing! Maybe I'll do a post on that. We will see!

And things to look forward to in September are my dad coming to visit, college football games, my boss coming to town from Denver, going to Boston for a memorial service for my mom and seeing my nephew again-he has started crawling since the last time I saw him. Should be busy, busy!

Linking up with Ashley!

Friday Letters

Dear New Shoes you are so beautiful and I am so excited to wear you. Hopefully you do not hurt my feet. Dear September you are almost here. Where did August go? Dear Husband I have been enjoying you having time off from class. You are so much more relaxed and we have more time to spend together. Dear Walks in the Park I enjoy you so much and look forward to you every night! You are great way to get some exercise in while I enjoy talking to my husband. We have so much more quality time together and I love it.
Dear Healthy Eating all of a sudden you are a huge part of our lives. So excited that my husband is on board with getting healthy. Better watch out Minnesota, you wont even recognize us next time we come to visit!
Dear Football Season I have mixed emotions about you. I like the idea of watching football on Sunday afternoons, but I can't watch my team from the South. Boo. However, college football and tailgating should make up for that. Dear Weekend You should be fun! I am excited for the long weekend and hanging out with some friends we have not seen in a while!

Have a good weekend!

First Year in Louisiana

A lot has happened in the last year its kinda crazy.

- We drove home twice. Once in November for Thanksgiving, where I got to meet my nephew for the first time. And my sisters and I went black friday shopping like we do every year.

And again in May.

-We also flew home in September for our amazing friends' wedding.

-I flew home twice without my husband. Once to see one of my good friends growing up get married and the other time because my husband was going to be out of town.

-We also flew home in July for my mom's funeral which was hard, but nice to visit everyone.

So I went home 6 times in the last year. Which is kinda ridiculous, but I don't care. And I still get homesick.

-We had the attack of the crickets last fall. There were so many crickets everywhere and they somehow dug their way into the house. I had to kill 8-10 of them every night inside the apartment for a month. So gross. Not looking forward to that this fall.

-We spent our first Christmas away from home. But we did have Richard's little brother come visit it so it was like a piece of home was here.

-We went on two road trips with friends. One to New Orleans and the other to Pensacola.

Some other Louisiana experiences we had was celebrating Mardi Gras, eating crawfish, visiting Baton Rouge and finding our love for Sweet Frog fro-yo.

A lot more has happened this year but that is all for now. We have had a pretty good year and I look forward to the year to come!

Moving to Louisiana

Well as of Sunday it has officially been a year since we have moved to Louisiana. I cannot believe how fast this time has gone! I remember telling people we were moving to Louisiana and everybody kept saying how fast the time would go. I did not believe them then, but I do now!

And since I was not blogging last year when we moved I thought this would be a good time to re-live the experience.

-Finding a place to rent was one of the hardest things I have done. Most of the places in the area we were looking at did not list their properties online. So research in advance was pretty much impossible. And then Richard's mom and I went to Louisiana over a weekend and most places are not open on weekends. Originally our plane was supposed to land early Friday afternoon, but our plane got delayed so we got in later in the evening. So we missed our opportunity to see most of the places we had in mind. But after some lucky breaks we found the place that we currently live and we are totally happy.

-We hired movers to take all of our things because we had a lot of stuff to move and it would be just the two of us unloading in Louisiana. And me and my little self was not going to be very much help. So we payed probably more than we should have, but it was necessary at the time.

-Our drive down to Louisiana was the most stressful trip I have ever been on. We pulled my car behind Richard's Jeep which was our first mistake. We had to drive extra slow and be careful that the car did not move around too much behind us. The trouble started when we hit Arkansas. There are a lot  of up and downs and turns when you are driving through the mountains. And having to pull the car through all of that was not fun. Then the sun set and we could see all kinds of deer on the side of the road and we were super freaked that one of them was going to jump out in front of us. And the roads were not lit at all so we could not see more than a few feet in front of us. Not good.

-When we got to Louisiana, our movers arrived shortly after we did. They unloaded everything while we organized. After everything was unloaded, we realized that they forgot some pieces to our bed so we were not able to set it up. And unpacking was crazy because at first we could not find our shower curtain so showering was a little difficult. And then there was the whole hurricane threat that came through 3 days after we moved. And we had no internet to keep up with the storm which made it even more interesting.

So the moral of the story is moving across the country is quite the challenge. But I would say that we definitely learned a lot from it. We will be way more organized next time it happens and probably begin packing a lot sooner. And once the move was over things started to get much better. This move has been the experience of a lifetime and even though I may not love every minute of it, I definitely would not change it. These experiences are something we would not have encountered without moving so I am grateful to have been forced out of my comfort zone. It has definitely helped me grow as a person and our relationship has also seen some changes. Having to depend on each other 100% has helped to strengthen our relationship.

And coming later this week, some of the fun things we have done in Louisiana!

Weekend Update- Catching up

This weekend was a pretty chill weekend. We had time to catch up from our mini vacation since Richard's parents were here.

After work we decided to go on a walk together. I love going on walks with my husband after work. It is a great way to get some exercise in while catching up with each other after a days work.

Then we came home ate dinner and watched the movie Mud. It was a good movie even if I got distracted in the middle. Whoops.

We did a lot of cleaning and organizing throughout the house. We then checked out a local health foods store that we have been wanting to go to for a while. It was a small place and they had some good stuff. However, it makes me wish they had a whole grocery store full of healthy food. There was not a whole lot of produce, but it was still a good store.

Then I got some quality time with this baby.

And then we watched the movie The Departed. It was a different movie and got a little bloody towards the end, but still a good movie.

We spent Sunday doing more cleaning and organizing. We also decided to go through some of Richard's clothes to make some room on his shelves. I am so proud that he was able to get rid of two bags of clothes. And all of his clothes now fit on the shelves. Make me very happy.

Then we did the usual grocery trip and came home and made dinner. And wine while making dinner is always a good idea.

We had a very productive weekend. Nothing super exciting, but it felt good to be able to catch up again. And yesterday officially marked a year in Louisiana, but more on that later this week!
