Weekend Update | Learning to Sew

At work on Friday, I got the sudden urge to use my sewing machine that I got for Christmas. So I dragged my husband along to hunt down the items I needed for my project. The I followed Raechel's Sewing 101 course to learn. I only learned as much as I needed for the project I had in mind, but I plan on following the rest of her course. It was very informative. While making some practice stitches there may have been a few times where I screamed at my machine and almost broke down to a blubbering fool. My machine was not being very nice to me and kept getting stuck and I couldn't figure out why. Well it turns out I had turned my dial to go from a straight stitch to a zig-zag stitch but I hadn't fully turned it so I ended with my dial in between the two modes and my machine was confused. Once I figured that out I had no more issues. I did learn a few things about how to take a machine apart which was useful. Happy accident.

I completed my first ever sewing project and I am super impressed! I will share all the details of the project on Thursday for my Saw it, Pinned it, Did it, but here is a preview.

Then, for dinner I met up with my husband and everyone in his program. They had applicants for next years cohort come into town for interviews so we went out to dinner with faculty, students and interviewees. After dinner, we went with a bunch of people over to a friends house. His girlfriend was in town so we all got to meet her for the first time.

I was feeling a little lazy and didn't do a whole lot of anything. I had to do a ton of laundry since my husband is going to a big conference on Wednesday for his field of study. It is the biggest one of the year where he will do all kinds of networking and socializing and he needed all of his dress clothes cleaned. Yay for me. Hopefully this will mean he impresses people from the Minneapolis area so we can end of back there. I know he can do it!

Linking up with Sami!
