Monthly Review- April

Well today is the last day of the month so here I am with my monthly review! This month was full of birthdays and celebrations. I am going to do this a little differently this month so we will see how it goes.

First things first. My little nephew is officially 6 months old today! Ahh! Stop growing my baby!

And April is a huge birthday month for my friends and family.

My little sister's boyfriend Jason's birthday is today! Yahoo!

And then my birthday was on April 2nd. 

Then here is a review of some of my favorite things from this last month. 

1. Going home to Minnesota and seeing all my friends and family. 

2. Going disc golfing with the husband and spending a whole a lot of time with him.

3. This cardigan that I made for pictures with my nephew. I was so proud of my first sewing project.  My nephew is also pictured above sporting my creation.

4. The Blogilates workout calendar. It took me almost a whole month to actually start it, but it has kicked my butt into gear. Workouts=sore muscles.

5. All the pictures I took and some that still need to be edited. I am very proud of how my photography is developing. Pun intended. I am learning so much and I love the opportunities I have to take pictures. Here is another one of my nephew since he is just so dang cute. 

6. The weather in Louisiana has been pretty amazing. I am trying to enjoy it as much as I can before the super hot and humid comes and I will be locking myself inside.

And here is my goals update for the month of April.

1. Be More Active
Towards the end of this month I started working out again. But I went almost an entire month of not working out at all. It is shameful and I blame in on my vacation in the middle of the month. Preparing and then recovering took a lot of my time and energy. But no more excuses it is happening in May!

2. Be More Organized
Horrible. I need to get off my butt and keep up with the cleaning around my house. I have had so much going on this month that it sorta got put on the back burner. I just need to suck it up and clean. Otherwise it gets to be too much to do at once. Just do it.

3. Watch Less TV, Spend More Time Doing My Hobbies
This is sort of tough this month cause I was doing my hobbies while watching TV. So its kinda 50/50. But I would like to scrapbook more and I can't do that in front of the TV. So I still need to work on that.

4. Build My Relationship with My Husband
We had our monthly date night again this month. I love these cause it is a chance to put everything else away and spend one on one time with my husband. Which can be hard to do when he is busy all the time with school. But I just love the days set aside for us. 

5. Have Fun!
And this one is a given. I try very hard to have fun. I am hoping to take advantage of the south and explore it a little bit. I want to go to the beach since it is only six hours away. I am thinking Galveston, TX, Gulf Shores, AL, or Pensacola, FL. Not sure yet. But I mean 6 hours from the beach? I can't not go. It is happening even if I have to go by myself. Ha.

Weekend Update | Family Dinner

Happy Monday everybody! This past weekend was pretty productive considering the last two I have not done a whole lot of keeping up with the house.

Right after work, Richard and I took Paisley puppy to the dog park. She was tired and ready to go after chasing the ball for 20 minutes. Then we headed to a friend's house for our monthly family dinner. Our family dinners are always fun because it is a good way to get everybody together.

We started our day by going out the River Market, which is a bunch of booths in an area of downtown by the river. It was the first time we went and we were totally not impressed. I think we were there for all of 10 minutes. I am hoping that at different times of the year it is better, but this week it was lame.

Then I spent the rest of Saturday afternoon cleaning and doing laundry while my husband studied. Then I pulled him away from his studies long enough to eat dinner and go to Target. I am always amazed how easy it is to spend too much money at Target. It sucks you in. Then on our way home we went to a frozen yogurt place- Sweet Frog. That place is so delicious. Then we went home and as part of my 101 in 1001 Days, we watched the movie Enchanted. I love that movie even though it is for kids. Whatever.

We spent the day doing more cleaning, studying and organizing. Then my amazing husband cut up a whole bunch of fruit for me since I am only eating fruits and vegetables at work this week. And hopefully many more weeks to come. 

I am kinda surprised at time with the list of things that I have to do. I feel like I am always busy, but I am not in school anymore so I don't really understand how I have so much to do. This week I have to finish planning the baby shower that I am throwing on Friday, finish doing our laundry, and edit a whole bunch of baby pictures. Lots to do.

Personal Questions

I was reading Living in Yellow's blog and she invited everyone to answer some questions so I thought I would join in.

1. If you could do one thing differently in your life, what would it be?
College. I hated every minute of college. My mentality was to power through and finish, which is exactly what I did. I am shy so it was hard for me to make friends. I wish I would have lived on or near campus and got to experience the college life. Maybe even make a friend or two. I lived off campus and only went to campus when I had class, which also did not help.

2. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
This is a hard question for me. My life after the next two and a half years is a big question mark. After Richard finishes his program in that time, we have no idea where we will end up. Everything depends on his job and where ever that may be. Not being able to plan kills me but I am working on that. Ideally I would love to be back in Minnesota starting a family, but only time will tell.

3. Do you honestly want kids?
Yes. With all my heart. I can't imagine not having children. That is just me though. Some days I wish I could have them now, but I know the timing is not right so I am patiently waiting.

4. What has been the best moment of your life so far?
This is probably the typical answer, but I would have to say my wedding day. Duh. I love my husband and our wedding day is still my favorite day to date. I love going back and looking at the pictures and remembering everything that happened that day. It makes me want to go back and live it again.

5. What is your life theme song?
I don't know if this is my life song but my all time favorite would have to be Taylor Swift  Our Song. This song represent the early stages of mine and Richard's relationship so it holds a special place in my heart. I still get excited whenever I listen to it.

6. What is one thing you have yet to accomplish that you want to do before you die?
I want to travel the world. Visit all the cool places out there and experience new places. I have had the travel bug lately and I want to go everywhere. I wish I had unlimited funds so I could go see everything.

7. If you could choose one thing to be known for, what would it be?
I want to be known for having a positive and encouraging attitude. I don't like to be negative - I always try to see the positive in situations and I want other people to see that as well. 

8. If you could do anything you wanted right in this very moment (no consequences, no fear, etc), what would it be?
I would be a photographer. And the very best photographer at that. I have started with some photography, but I still have a lot to learn. And I would love to have my own photography company and have the opportunity to take as many pictures as possible.

9. What has been the most challenging moment in your life?
Moving from Minnesota to Louisiana. Leaving all my friends and family behind. I am grateful that we have created a good life for us here in Louisiana, but it does not change the fact that moving was an incredibly difficult thing for me to do. I am really bad at getting out of my comfort zone and moving forced me to do so.  It is helping me to be able to enjoy new experiences and I needed that in my life.

10. Summarize yourself in one word.
Growing. And no I do not mean physically (I am only 4' 11"). Growing emotionally. I feel like this move to Louisiana has taught me how much I still need to grow in my life and how much I still need to learn.

Going Raw

Well I have decided that I will be going mostly raw in my eating choices. I have been reading about what it means to go raw and the health affects it has on your body so I am going to try it.

Going raw means that I will only be eating raw, uncooked, naturally occurring foods. Stephanie at Beautiful Mess was the first person who inspired me to do this. Here is her list of raw foods.

I, however, will not be going fully raw. I am going to try raw before dinner. Which to me means that I will eat only raw foods until it is time for dinner. So my breakfast, lunch and snacks will consist of fruits and vegetables. I am not a huge fan of vegetables so it may be a challenge to find some of those that I like. But I love love love fruit. So I am hoping that I can find a good balance to make it work.

I am not going to be super strict on myself, I am just going to try to get as close to fully raw before dinner. I may still drink my hot chocolate in the morning or use dressing for my salad and vegetables. I figure that getting close is good enough for me right now. My main reason for wanting to do this is to be healthier and also I am sick of eating sandwiches for lunch everyday. It is hard for me to get creative with lunches that I will like.

So step one to going raw is buying all of my fruits and vegetables. Which may be a challenge. Our local Walmart is terrible with their selection of produce. So the husband and I will have to make an extra trip to a different grocery store to buy produce (grocery stores in Louisiana are terrible). I am hoping that one of the stores in our area will have organic fruits and vegetables for me to buy.

After I told my husband that I wanted to go raw he sent me this link about the dirty dozen-which are the 12 most pesticide heavy fruits and vegetables. And I eat a lot of the items on this list. Here they are:

Peaches//Spinach//Sweet Bell Peppers//Nectarines (imported)
Cucumber//Potatoes//Cherry Tomatoes//Hot Peppers

 I stumbled upon Kristine's blog this morning where she is hosting a green smoothie challenge and I thought it was perfect since I do not like a lot of vegetables. I love smoothies so I am going to try making a green smoothie-with spinach- to see if I like it. That way I can get an extra helping of vegetables though out my day, most likely for breakfast.

So starting next week, I am going to attempt to go raw before dinner. I will let you know how it goes. I also need to kick my butt into gear and start working out. I have every intention of doing so when I leave work, but then it doesn't happen. So that will be starting next week too.

Weekend Update | Disc Golfing

Well it is Monday. And that means time for my weekend update! 

We had a pretty chill Friday night. We were both really tired from the week of no sleep. Richard was at school working on an assignment and did not get home until 8. Then we went to Olive Garden for dinner-we are completely out of food in our house. Then we came home, hung out and went to bed early. Really exciting I know.

We woke up early to take our puppy Paisley to the vet. It is always an interesting experience with her at the vet's office. I am glad Richard was there to help.

Then we headed over to one of Richard's classmates (Evan) house so that the two of them could finish an assignment. I hung out with his fiancee (Claire) since we did not have school work to do. Then we went to lunch with them at a place called Appetizers. It was not very good. Oh well.

Then, since the weather was amazingly beautiful-75 degrees and sunny with a slight breeze- we headed with our puppy to the dog park. She loves that place and she will run and chase a ball for hours without stopping. She cannot help herself, even if she is ready to pass out she still brings the ball back for us to throw.

Then we headed out for our monthly date. Since it was so beautiful outside and we wanted to enjoy it we decided to go disc golfing. We looked up a place to go and chose what sounded good. Well the course was a bit confusing and it was hard to find the next hole when we finished one. We even had to skip a few holes because they looked a little sketch- they were deep in the woods or we had to be in someones back yard. Let's just say it was an adventure.

The bottom left picture shows part of the course. The water there is part of a swamp. It was still a good time and we got some good walking in. Next time, however we need to find a better course. I'll have to recruit some of my work friends for advice on where to go. Then we went home ordered a pizza and watched Pitch Perfect. Cute movie. Our date was definitely a success and some much need quality time with the husband was perfect.

We headed to the Tech(where Richard goes to school) baseball game to enjoy another sunny day. We sat in the sun and it felt wonderful. I also got the first sunburn of the season. It was a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon in the glorious sunshine. Then we went on our much needed grocery trip. So much food but much needed. 

The whole weekend was great and I was so happy to spend so much time outside and with my husband.
