Household Binder

If you know me at all you know that I am a planner. I like to plan out everything and make lists and jot down my thoughts. I was trying to find a planner that worked for what I wanted it for and I had no luck. So I decided to make one for me just the way I would want it.

If you are on Pinterest I am sure you have seen these household binders floating around. Basically they are one binder where you can keep everything you would ever need in one place. At first I thought that I would only want something like this once we have kids and a million schedules to juggle, but I was wrong. So I decided to make one for myself.
I started by grabbing a one inch binder with dividers and a set of Jan-Dec tabs. I created 7 different "sections" with my dividers: Calendar, Schedules, Finance, Contact Info, Cleaning, Miscellaneous and Address Book. I put everything except my calendar into protective sleeves.

The use of this tab in pretty self explanatory; I will be using this for our daily calendar. I started with a 2014 year at a glance printable. Then I used my Jan-Dec tabs to create the different months.

Inside each month, I have a monthly calendar along with two scratch pieces of paper. I usually write down ideas in such in my planner, but I do not need the individual days of the week.

This differs from my calendar in that this is where I keep all my other schedules that are not necessarily on my calendar. I have my master to-do list in here, along with important dates to remember and my planned PTO hours and such.

This tab was the main reason for me to want to make a binder. I have all kinds of sticky notes all over the place that have notes about our finances on it. Well I got sick of the disorganization. We do things a little bit differently in our house so there is a lot to keep track of. In this divider, I have our monthly budget, our monthly cash flow for our checking account, and other notes for what we will be saving for. We also set aside money each month for our non-monthly expenses, like car insurance since we pay in full every six months. All this money goes into a separate savings account that we then transfer money out of when bills come due. So I needed to track the amount that should be in the account each month.

Contact Info
This section has all of our contact info and policy numbers for all of our different insurance policies. Not sure how much we will utilize this yet, but I thought it was cool.

This tab holds all of my cleaning schedules. I made up a new one specifically for this book. I decided that I am going to have a room to clean each day that way I know exactly what needs to be done for the day. And I will also keep checklists for seasonal tasks.

I am sure this will develop over time, but for now it is whatever else does not fit in the categories. I have a blog post idea sheet in there right now.

Address Book
Someday I will be organized enough to have everyone's addresses in one spot. For now I will just have a few that I use more often than others.

I have already started using this and I am in love. It is so nice to have everything in one go-to spot. I also like the printables because they keep me organized.

I found most of my printables via pinterest. My favorites were Organized HomeScattered SquirrelIHeart OrganizingOrganized Home Life, and DIY Home Sweet Home. And my Year at a Glance can be found at that link.

Here's to being more organized in 2014!

Weekend Update | Shopping

This weekend was chill but busy at the same time. Is that even possible?

I decided on Friday to jump into my photography business. I purchased a website and I have been designing it all. weekend. long. But it is exciting and I cannot wait until I am done with it so I can share it! But it may take me some time- who knew it would take forever to design a website? I worked on it both Friday and Sunday and I am no where near done. Oh well, I will get there.

This weekend started with Richard coming to visit me for a lunch date while I worked. We went to a local mexican restaurant that is delicious. I told Richard I was taking this picture and this is the pose he gave me. Interesting.

Saturday we woke up early and headed down to Baton Rouge. I really like shopping down there. They have a lot of stores all within a small area. Plus, it has more of a city feel so we love it. And the three and a half hour drive goes quickly when you have good company.

I scored a lot of really great stuff. I got almost all of the clothes at Loft Outlet. Love that store to death. It is pretty much the main reason we went to Baton Rouge. They have a petite section (because let's face it I am not even five feet tall) and the clothes there actually fit me! Basically every shirt I tried on was perfect, the shoulders on the shirt actually fell on my shoulder. Seriously, I did not know that is how clothes are supposed to fit. Does anyone else have this problem? I even bought two dresses and the waist and length are exactly where they should be. You can see that I am very excited about this.

I bought three paris of shoes at DSW and the last pair at Naturalizer. Three tank tops, two dresses, two shirts and a pair of jeans at Loft. Two pairs of shorts from Banana Republic. All of those stores are not to be found within two hours of my house. We are deprived. And everything was on sale so I got some great deals.

We also went to Charming Charlie's where I got a bunch of really  cute jewelry and two scarves. This is the best accessory store that I know of. I have not checked out the one that just opened by us yet, but I am sure it is amazing.

Richard mostly just tagged along with me since he only wanted to go to World Market and Chipotle.

Sunday was spent editing pictures, more website design and watching football. And of course Richard is excited that the Packers are in the playoffs. So we will see how that goes.

I had a really fun weekend and loved my retail therapy and time spent with my husband. Now I will not purchase clothing for a very long time. Or maybe just a few weeks.

Celebration of Christmas

Since we were not able to head home for Christmas, Richard and I were able to spend a lot of time together in the last few days. Which makes me so happy.

We started out our Christmas break on Monday night by watching the 6th and 7th Harry Potter movie. We had to finish from our weekend marathon.

We woke up on Christmas Eve morning and finished watching the last Harry Potter movie. 8 movies over a 6 day period was crazy. We then made my grandma's caramel roll recipe which is always delicious.

We then decided to clean and organize our house. Originally we were going to make cookies on Christmas eve, but we did that last weekend instead so that we could share them with my coworkers. So we decided to do the cleaning and organizing on Christmas Eve instead. We got rid of 6 boxes/bags of stuff which is really good for us. We are on operation move-as-little-stuff-as-possible if/when the time comes.

After all of that we made our Christmas Eve dinner. Where Richard ate steak and I ate fettuccine alfredo. We both picked out our meals separately because, let's face it, we do not like the same meals.

After dinner we watched Elf which is a Christmas tradition of ours. Love that movie.

Then on Christmas morning we Face Timed both of our families so that we could open presents together. My nephew was so cute. He kept coming over to the iPad and waving at me and saying hi. Such a sweetie.

Richard and I then decided to do something different for Christmas and go see a movie at the movie theater. We rarely go to the theater and I used to go to movies on Christmas when I was a teenager so we thought it would be fun. We went to see The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. It was a cute movie, but it was not my favorite.

We then just hung out together, made dinner and then watched the movie The Notebook. Apparently with all this time on our hands we watch a lot of movies. Oh well, we need something to fill our day.

So our days were pretty relaxed, but we still really enjoyed the time together just the two of us. I hope everybody else had an amazing Christmas!

-We celebrated my nephew's birthday with a little party.

-We visited Natchitoches for their Christmas festival.
-We spent a lot of time at our local Christmas shenanigans.
-We made Christmas cookies!

-And we will finished the year out with Christmas and a happy new year!
As of right now I also finished 25 things on my 101 Things in 1001 days list. I think this is pretty good so far and I still have quite a few things that are in progress that I am almost done with! So 2013 has been a year of changes and there are so many more changes that will come in 2014. I guess we are just at a point in life right now where we have no idea what to expect in the next few years. It is scary, but exciting at the same time!
